Meet our fencers @ British Youth Championship!

Here we are! This is the weekend of the British Youth Championship 2017!

Let’s introduce who will be representing Mansfield Fencing Club:

first on piste, on Saturday the 29th will be Sebastian Sluja and Maksymilian Palamar, competing in the Under 12 category. Patryk Sroka will follow on Sunday the 30th, in the Under 16, with Patrick Carey fencing on Monday 1st of May in the Under 18.

The event will be held at the Sheffield arena ( If you are in the area, come and support young fencers gathering from all over the country. This is a great experience for them!

Our young fencers qualify for the National Finals

Strong performance by Mansfield Fencing Club young epee fencers at the East Midlands BYC Qualifier, a qualifying competition  for the national finals of the British Fencing Youth Championships, which will be held in Sheffield,  on 29th April – 1st May 2017.

In the under 12 age group. Sebastian Sluja took the gold medal, with Maksymilian Palamar taking silver, to complete a Mansfield FC dominated podium. Oliver Harcourt finished 5th, after losing with team-mate Sebastian, and Oliver Golanowski finished 7th. Sebastian and Maksymilian will represent Mansfield Fencing Club at the National finals on the 29th of April.



In the under 16 group, Patryk Sroka followed Sebastian example and earned the second gold medal of the weekend for our club. Seeded second after the first round of pools, Patryk reached the final after beating Isaac Wilde 15-9 and James Morris-Wright 15-9. In the final act, a convincing 15-9 victory over Will Toon gave Patryk a gold medal and the pass for the national finals on the 30th of April. Finally, Patrick Carey finished 3rd in the under 18 group, joining his team mate for the finals in Sheffield

Patrick Carey takes Bronze medal at Leon Paul U20

Strong start of the year for Mansfield Fencing Club! After James Wake victory at the Yorkshire senior epee, Patrick Carey is bringing our club on the podium at the weekend in London, with James finishing 25th.

71 fencers at the start of the Leon Paul BRC Men’s Junior epee, both our fencers sailed through the first round of pools: 5 victories over 5 matches for Patrick Patrick_LPU20_Jan2017(putting him at the top of the ranking) and 4 victories for James. After winning the first match 15/13, James lost 11/15 to enter in the last 16. A series of very strong wins (15/5, 15/8, 15/12 and 15/9) takes Patrick to the semifinals, where he lost 15/9 to Billy Shepherd. Full results are available at

This is a remarkable result for our fencers, both still under 17.
